Innovason announces support of Neumann’s Solution-D Series digital microphones for Eclipse

The world’s first console with direct control of digital microphones

Innovason has always been a synonym for the highest sound quality in a live environment. When the company was invited to participate in a project with Neumann, the team was immediately attracted to the challenge of raising the bar to a new level for sound quality on stage. The result of this collaboration is that Innovason has yet again set new standards for live mixing by becoming the world´s first manufacturer to implement all the specs within a network of digital microphones from Neumann/ Sennheiser into a digital mixing console - Eclipse.

Innovason’s Marcel Babazadeh explains: “While benefitting from the improved sound of the Solution-D microphones, the sound engineer can forget noise problems due to analog cable-patching, there are no more clipping problems and he has no worries with analog gain sharing – therefore gain compensation becomes obsolete and there are fewer problems with feedback because the audio remains in the digital domain from the microphones all the way out to the amplifiers. On top of that, all the settings of a digital microphone will be stored within pages and snapshots of the console.”

The engineer has instant access to all microphone parameters via the GUI of Innovason’s latest version Nova 2.0 software for Eclipse. It offers comprehensive adjustment of polar pattern, tone generator, limiter/compressor and attenuation. As a result, each signal path in the desk is enriched by the functionality of the Solution-D microphone.

These advantages are apparent even in the most critical applications like open air classical music events. Here the high amount of signals coming from the stage and the enormous dynamic provided by the instruments are a challenge for every sound engineer. However, Eclipse makes it easy, enabling a seamless workflow with SMART Faders, the SMART Panel, integrated FX, M.A.R.S. multitrack recording, Virtual Soundcheck, as well as control of the digital microphones. Meanwhile, on stage, the Solution-D system ensures crystal clear, transparent and totally uncompromised sound quality, which is delivered direct to the console.

According to Wolfgang Fraissinet, president of marketing/sales at Neumann: “A continuous digital audio signal path is now available without any compromises. Already standard practice in the global media industry, it has been discussed among audio experts since the DAW became the main tool for processing and storage of audio data. The solution of remotely controlled features of our Solution-D Series via the GUI of Innovason’s latest version software for the Eclipse mixing console will provide our customers with the appropriate answer to this demand – the discussions have at last become a reality!”

Philipp Lawo, CEO of the Lawo Group stated: “Here we have a perfect example of Innovason doing what it does best – in other words, pushing the limits to find new ways of improving sound quality. Innovason brings the pure sound of the Solution-D microphones to the integrated M.A.R.S. recording system and leads it through the powerful mixing engine of the Eclipse – straight to the FOH or Monitoring system.”

There are a number of major advantages offered by this new solution:

  • Quality; loss-less transmission without reductions in signal quality, retaining the full dynamic range and fidelity of a high-class Neumann condenser microphone in a fully synchronized audio network
  • Time; ease-of-use operation of the remotely controlled microphones as a result of their high dynamic range in combination with an integrated high-class peak limiter and compressor (“Your first take is your last take”)
  • Reliability; no interferences & no hum problems, perfect for live applications
  • Customization; storage of individual settings for Gain, PAD, Polar Pattern, Low-Cut, Stereo matrixing, Phase and limiters in each microphone

“I am very proud of this collaboration with Neumann,” concluded Babazadeh. “It marries the technologies of both companies, both of whom are experts in their field, and has created something that is even greater than the sum of its parts. Thanks to Eclipse, the unparalleled audio quality of the Solution-D mics can be exploited in a way that was simply not possible before.”
