INNOVASON unveils universal output module with onboard processing at ProLight & Sound 2007

Digital mixing console manufacturer, INNOVASON, is pleased to unveil their UM-8PO universal output module. For the first time ever in any digital mixing console, the UM-8PO combines analogue and digital processed outputs in the same module.

The UM-8PO is equipped with eight XLR outputs that are configurable (in pairs) as analogue or AES outputs providing eight analogue and eight AES channels, or indeed as ADAT thanks to a Tos-Link connector enabling a further eight ADAT channels over fibre-optic. Furthermore, each output benefits from a powerful and comprehensive range of processing that is easily upgradeable via firmware updates. The UM-8PO replaces all existing INNOVASON output modules and will be supplied as standard on all new INNOVASON consoles.

"This module has so many advantages, it's difficult to know where to begin," remarked INNOVASON's product specialist, Hervé De Caro. "Firstly, you no longer have to worry about having the right output module for the right occasion, or being put in a difficult situation if someone turns up with a bit of outboard gear that you can't connect to – you just configure your outputs to be whatever you want them to be. Secondly, it's important to note that your processing power is per output, not a stand-alone module that would limit your processing capacity. In other words, if you have three UM-8POs, so 24 outputs, you have access to twenty-four 31-band graphic EQs! No other digital console manufacturer can currently match that. You also have parametric EQs, compressor/limiters, delay, de-esser, gate/expander etc., all per output. It makes a significant difference to the capacity of the console, and of course reduces the need for outboard processing by a considerable margin."

INNOVASON has wasted no time in putting together a new console package that will enable their customers to take advantage of these latest developments in an extremely cost-effective format. The Sy48 Pro Fx package comprises an Sy48 control surface providing 48 mic inputs, and 24 outputs provided by three new UM-8PO cards plus a remote audio rack (Stage Box) complete with an FM-8VB effects module. The same package also exists in an Sy80 format, the only difference being the control surface.
