DM Audio at the Eurovision 2003 2003-06-26
Riga, latvia : This was the fourth Eurovision Song Contest for Lars Wern and co sound engineer Robert Ernlund. The rest of DM Audio, Barney Gausdal and Mats Wennerholm have already done it three times and monitor engineer Philip Jansson was this years rookie. For the 2003 edition, DM Audio used 128 channels at each position.
As of last year, DM Audio used INNOVASON Grand Live mixers. They have shown extremely reliable and the ability to repeat, exactly from one rehearsal to another is extremely important. The reason is all back up DM Audio is forced to use, to insure a successful broadcast for the EBU.
This year, DM Audio cooperated successfully with local company UBS, Universal Baltic Sound with Mr Edmunds Verners in charge. At the FOH, DM Audio used the internal INNOVASON compressors for the vocals. They had one Drawmer MX 50, De esser, that was inserted when needed. For many lead singer it was extremely nice to get rid of the sharp S-sounds while still having a nice top to the sound. The new InnovaSON software allowed DM Audio to move an insert with the scenes, which made it very simple. Using the ICON remote control, with a touch screen, on top of the INNOVASON mixer was very convenient.
The main INNOVASON mixers were saved on discs and transferred to the back up mixers after each rehearsal. During the show everything was MIDI controlled from the main mixers. At the FOH, DM Audio used RANE digital processors for distribution of the signals. One processor for each mixer. The eight outputs of each processor, were then combined and fed to the PA amplification. Each processor was connected through the AES/EBU output from the INNOVASON mixer. At the Monitor Mixers, DM Audio only used the internal eight bands of eq for the outputs, and a TC 6000 for each INNOVASON mixer.
