CBC's new Radio and TV building in Quebec has installed three INNOVASON consoles for its TV and radio programming. Two Sy40s are at the heart of two new On Air radio studios; each Sy40 is equipped with a remote stage box, 48 inputs and 32 outputs. An Sy80, equipped with 80 inputs and 80 mixed analogue and digital outputs, has been installed in the audio control room of a new On Air TV studio. All three studios are in use around the clock, broadcasting public affairs, cultural and musical programming, as well as newscasting across the national French network.
'We looked at many different brands of digital.' said Jacques André Thibeault, senior sound engineer at CBC Radio (pictured). 'On the wish list was to have as many faders as possible on the work surface; as many output buses as possible; rapid reboot; as short a propagation delay as possible; sample rate convenors for AES-EBU inputs; flexibility in selecting the hardware configuration (digital or analogue inputs and outputs); physical size; ease of transition from an analogue mixer when training operators; redundancy of power supplies; ease of maintenance; modular construction; flexibility to do a radio show with live musicians' monitor mixes; no multilayer operation; and last but not least, price. Our trust in Sennheiser Canada as INNOVASON local representative also greatly influenced our final decision to invest in the brand.'
This is a trend we are seeing more and more, and INNOVASON desks with their proven reliabilit for live mixing are a natural choice for live to air broadcast applications,' said INNOVASON sales and marketing director Nick Cook.
